First of all Electric Vehicle is a revolutionary change in automobile sector. As the name specifies electric vehicle uses electric current to start or run a vehicle or car. The mechanism or working principle is based upon an induction motor and energy stored by it’s large no of lithium ion battery.

This concept is first invented by Robert Anderson, then in 1881 Gustave Trouve and latter in 1895 Thomas Parker is credited for invention. It was first developed as a single usable vehicle. In 1888 the German Andreas Flocken designed the electric car which is known as the first real electric car as per wikipedia. This concept is used in various space research centers for usage of space rovers as it resolves fuel concept.

Due to this revolutionary concept many multi national companies like Mahindra, Tata, Eicher, Excide, Tesla, ford, Nissan, Chevrolet has endeavored towards setting new goals towards implementation of electric vehicles. If we discuss about making electric vehicle popular then Tesla has given some kind of new edge cutting technologies like auto pilot mode, which makes it popular among the users.

Auto Pilot

One of the technology is Auto pilot mode. This technology is visible in Tesla electric cars. Such auto pilot technology is developed using Artificial Intelligence ( AI ). In auto pilot mode the car will detect the road, trees, buildings, pedestrians, other vehicles and their position from the route and the car will drive automatically. A driver does not have to control the car using it’s steering. It doesn’t mean the driver won’t touch the steering, but the driver doesn’t have to think of controlling the vehicle all the time. The LED panel will give red sign and warning in a proper frequency to driver to control the steering when ever necessary.

Cruise Control

Like Auto pilot cruise control is one of the advance technology used in electric cars and electric vehicles. German automotive engineer Ralph Teetor of Dana Corp has developed cruise control first. The fluctuation in motion due to acceleration and deacceleration inspired him to develop cruise control mechanism. Not only electric vehicles but traditional gas powered vehicles also use cruise control. In this technology speed is controlled by the vehicle itself automatically. Suppose a driver wants to drive the electric car with the speed 40 km per hour then he can set the speed up to 40 kmph. So the vehicle won’t cross it’s defined limit. General Motors have used this technology first in 1959 in Cadillac models.

Vehicle mounted camera

This technology is the base behind autonomous driving. Already we have seen auto pilot mode driving but this not same as auto pilot in electric cars. This is autonomous driving, which means absolute absence of driver can also make the vehicle run. Here cameras are fitted to the electric car which as a result provide views of surround in a computer screen. Another person can operate the car using computer from thousands of miles. Such technology was developed to operate the robotic cart in moon and the control of the cart is done from earth. This was first developed by Stanford University mechanical engineering graduate student James Adams and Les Earnest during 1961-71

As this electric vehicle and electric car concept is present cum futuristic concept still there are some technical issues also arise. There are various questions arise based upon such technology.

What are the demerits of electric car ?

If we see benefits there are huge benefits, but if we search for demerits then obviously we can find some in 100% perfect product also. Now there is less usage happening for such EVs, so if any problem appears there is no such expert in local garage to repair it. Also every time the owner has to take the vehicle to service center. Less charging station available where these vehicle are expected to run more.

What is the effect of electric car on environment ?

Electric cars are known as environment friendly, as it stops using gases like petrol and diesel. Also the sound produced from induction motor does not create noise pollution.
